    Part of Sand Hill Wildlife Management Area closes

    A 967-acre portion of the nearly 3,000-acre Sand Hill Wildlife Management Area in northern West Virginia has been closed to public access, according to the .

    The remaining 1,880 acres of the management area in Pleasants and Ritchie counties will stay open to public access for hunting and other forms of wildlife-associated recreation, division officials announced in a press release.

    Game traditionally hunted in the management area includes deer, grouse, squirrel, turkey, and rabbit. Logging roads and timber landings provide access throughout, though camping is prohibited in the management area.

    The part of the management area set to close was located in adjacent Wood and Ritchie counties, and public access will end January 1, 2021.

    The closed portion was formerly under a lease arrangement with owner , a gas pipeline corporation, which sold the property. The remaining acreage was recently purchased by the division with the assistance of .
