Snow tubing and ice skating at Canaan Valley Resort will open briefly for Thanksgiving in November then reopen December 15 for the ski season, according to resort officials.

The resort’s popular 1,200-foot tubing park—the longest in the Mid-Atlantic region, according to a release from the resort—will open Nov. 24 and operate through Sunday then reopen again in mid-December for the three-month season.

Resort general manager Steve Drumheller announced last week that the resort was by 20 percent this year after having doubled capacity the year before.

A drive of less than three hours from Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., the ski area is located in the Canaan Valley, the highest mountain valley east of the Rocky Mountains. With 47 trails and slopes, 91 skiable acres, terrain park and ski school, and four lifts, the ski area is swiftly becoming one of the most visited in the mid-Atlantic region.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, two-hour tubing sessions will be offered at 9-11 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. Tubing tickets are usually $18 mid-week and $25 on weekends and holidays during the regular season, and tubers must be at least four years old and 48 inches tall.

The covered outdoor ice-skating rink will open on Thanksgiving day and operate throughout the holiday weekend. Like the tube park, it will reopen Dec. 16. Thanksgiving weekend hours will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Rates are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Rental skates are available for $3.
