Snowshoe Mountain ski resort to open 50th season Nov. 27, 2024

SLATYFORK, W.Va. — Snowshoe Mountain ski resort in West Virginia will open for its 50th anniversary on Nov. 27, weather permitting.

The announcement follows the region's first snowfall, which descended on the mountain, one of the highest peaks in the Allegheny Mountains, in mid-October.

Resort spokesman Shawn Cassell said planning for ski season, a year-round endeavor, reaches a crescendo with the first snow.

“If you love winter the way we do, that first snowfall of the season is truly special," Cassell said.

"It’s the moment where you go from daydreaming about ski season to really making your plans.”

In addition to expectations for good ski weather, resort officials are enthused to celebrate the mountain's first half-century as a ski destination.

“There’s some extra anticipation for this winter because it’s our 50th Anniversary," he said, "and we plan to celebrate that all season long. It looks like Mother Nature is eager to help us get the party started!”
