Snowshoe Mountain replacing iconic Shavers Center with modern lodge

SLATYFORK, W.Va. — Construction is nearing completion on top of Snowshoe Mountain in eastern West Virginia, where a new ski lodge is replacing its long-standing and familiar Shavers Center, which served guests for nearly five decades.

Designed to offer a more spacious and comfortable experience, the new ski services facility will feature an open interior and an expansive outdoor deck with fire pits and additional seating, according to Patti Duncan, the resort's president and chief executive officer.

The new Shavers Center will serve as a hub for guests to gather, dine, and unwind after a day on the slopes. It will also house the resort's ski-and-ride school, pre-ski programs, and outdoor adventure tours.

The facility is expected to open its doors in December for the 2025-'26 winter season, Duncan said.

“The new Shavers Center is going to be an incredible improvement to our guest experience here on the mountain,” she said.

“The original Shavers Center was such an integral part of the mountain, and so many of our guests and employees have stories and fond memories from that place. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary this past winter, and now we’re looking forward to completing the new facility and making many more memories to come.”

In addition to serving skiers and snowboarders, the new Shavers Center will be available for conferences and private events. The venue will be open for limited group rentals during the winter season.

It will expand its availability for weddings, corporate retreats, and other gatherings during the summer and fall months beginning in May 2026.

Snowshoe Mountain is a premier four-season mountain resort located in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. Known for its impressive ski terrain and abundant natural snowfall, it’s the largest ski area in the state and a favorite destination for skiing, snowboarding, and winter adventures.

In addition to its winter offerings, Snowshoe transforms into a hub for mountain biking, hiking, and outdoor festivals in the warmer months, providing visitors with year-round recreation, stunning mountain views, and a charming alpine village atmosphere.
