    W.Va. adds five new ‘Almost Heaven’ swings for perfect photo moments

    CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The has added five new Almost Heaven swings to the Mountain State at Drawdy Falls in Boone County, Miracle Mountain in McDowell County, 4-H Camp Pioneer in Randolph County, Big Ditch Lake in Webster County, and at the Tater Hill Overlook in Wyoming County.

    According to state Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby, there are now 41 photo-op Almost Heaven swings available throughout the state, making it easy for travelers to snag a picture-perfect photo during their summer travels. Visitors are encouraged to share their pictures on social media using #AlmostHeaven.

    “The Almost Heaven swings continue to attract visitors from near and far,” Ruby said of the highly successful brand-building initiative.

    “I encourage folks to take a break from scrolling and come experience all of the outdoor adventures available here in the Mountain State. Summer is the perfect time to leave the screens behind and reconnect with the ones you love most. There’s no place more beautiful to unplug than in Almost Heaven.”

    Miracle Mountain Wilderness Park

    Visit Miracle Mountain Wilderness Park to grab a photo on one of the state’s newest Almost Heaven swings. Overlooking McDowell County, this spot provides a picturesque and peaceful escape, free from the distractions of screens. Parking is available in the field adjacent to the swing.


    Big Ditch Lake

    Nestled within the beautiful backcountry of Webster County, Big Ditch Lake boasts lovely views and serene conditions for warm-water fishing. Guests should park in the south lot off Birch River Road to take a photo at the new photo opportunity. The swing can be found with just a short walk from the parking lot. While here, don’t miss a stroll around the walking trail that surrounds the lake.


    4-H Camp Pioneer

    A popular spot for 4-H fun, Camp Pioneer in Randolph County is now home to an Almost Heaven Swing. The sparkling lake and rolling mountains make for a lovely backdrop. Take Scott’s Lake Road and look for the Camp Pioneer sign for nearby parking.


    Tater Hill Overlook

    Tater Hill Overlook offers sweeping views of the ATV-friendly town of Mullens, situated within the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System in Wyoming County. To access the new swing by ATV, guests should follow the signage from Mullens to “Tater Hill-Mullens Overlook.” Those traveling in a vehicle should take Highland Avenue or Broadway Street and follow the signs to the picnic area. Parking is also available at the end of Highland Avenue for those wanting to make the half-mile trek on foot or by bike.


    Drawdy Falls

    Tucked within the trees just off WV-3 in Boone County, this series of falls reaches six feet in height and is a featured stop on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail. Parking is available at the Roadside Park adjacent to the falls.
